Overview
The Department of Library and Information Science established during 2019-2020 offers Master of Library and Information Science (M.Lib.I.Sc) course from academic year 2020-21.

About the Program
The Master of Library and Information Science (M.Lib.I.Sc.) which is a Two year’s Postgraduate Degree course in Library and Information Science is being offered. It consists of four semesters and has been done with an aim to equip students with extensive knowledge to navigate the digital world and to properly handle information.

  • Hands-on training in specialised physical library as well as modern digital library.
  • Computer, internet, online e-resources and library software training facilities.
  • Library practice in state of an art Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Central Library.

Eligibility for Admission
Candidates who have passed any bachelor's degree examination from a recognized university and have secured at least 50% marks in aggregate shall be eligible for admission as per the university guidelines.

Objective of the Program

  • To train students for a professional career in Library and Information centres.
  • To train students in latest technique of information processing and develop capability to retrieve relevant information efficiently.
  • To impart ICT based skills among students to manage Library and Information centres in the changing electronic era.

Course Structure
Course name: Master of Library and Information Science (M.Lib.I.Sc.)
Duration: Two-Year Regular Programme (Four Semesters)
Course Pattern: Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)
Intake: 15 Students

Regular classes (Theory and Practice) will be conducted in all the four semesters. The last two semesters will have compulsory project work and internship training in Yenepoya Central Library and branch libraries.

  • Good opportunities for library and information science graduates in various organizations and institutions.
  • They can be employed in academic libraries such as schools, colleges, universities, medical, engineering and other professional college libraries.
  • The M.Lib.I.Sc graduates are also employed in government libraries, public libraries and special libraries.
  • They play a more significant role in the present information driven knowledge society. They are also employed in RD Centres, Industry and Business Houses, Training Centers of banks, National Museum and Archives and NGOs.
  • The M.Lib.I.Sc graduates will be employed with designation as Librarian / Information Scientist / Information Managers / Knowledge Managers etc.
